I purchased the massive turkey mastodon today at the grocery store. How is it possible to grow a turkey that big anyway? It puts me in that Thanksgiving mood. Though the number we’re feeding alternates from year to year, some things remain the same. Papa Bear will always barbecue the turkey on the Weber through some magical process which I do not understand. There will always be something of the cranberry persuasion and we will ‘pass the candle.’ The candle is a sweet little decorated jar created by Boo Boo when she was in kindergarten. We pass it around the table and say what we’re thankful for. Every year my heart nearly overflows with gratitude for the many blessings that surround my table. That is a feeling that will never change. What are some of your Thanksgiving traditions?

I live 800 miles away from my children and our family dynamic has changed so much over the years that we really don’t have any Thanksgiving traditions anymore.
I’d like Papa Bears recipe for his barbecued turkey…or is it a deep, dark secret?

Our family tradition is probably something done throughout most US households – we go around the table saying what we are thankful for. Although we are not hosting Thanksgiving this year, for the past several years my wife came up with a way to cook the turkey (wrapped in aluminum foil) on our grill. Don’t ask me why or how, but it comes out great! What I don’t understand though is why, when we redid our kitchen, we put in a double oven!!!
