“My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Did you know the line? How about this one?
“Mawige is what bwings us together today.”
If you got both of them, you’re a true fan of the 27 year old movie, The Princess Bride. The most amazing thing about this movie isn’t the actors (Manny Patinkin, Cary Elwes, Billy Crystal, etc.) or legendary director Rob Reiner. What’s most incredible is that the story broke the “Stick to your genre!” rule. It’s such an amalgam of comedy, adventure, love story, kids story, adult story, that the marketing department had no idea how to pitch it to audiences and pulled the movie trailers because they were so stumped. In my business, if you can’t tell the publisher where on the shelf your book fits, it’s probably not going to be contracted. That’s why it’s such a delight when a story breaks out of the box and appeals to many people in many ways. The Princess Bride did that, and that’s why it’s still beloved today.
Here’s a link to Cary Elwes’s new book about The Princess Bride, entitled As You Wish.

I loved the book before the movie was made. My sons claim this is their most-watched movie of all time.

I attended a wedding where some of the lines in that movie were quoted during the service. Hilarious.

This is one of my favorite movies. My husband and I quote it all the time. In fact, I used the mawage quote as a facebook update on my wedding day. I think the movie is just the perfect blend of plot, humour, and characters, plus it is just wittily brilliant.
I probably won’t attend, but there is a theatre about an hour from me who is having a special showing of the movie. Your ticket buys you a bag of props and you are encouraged to quote along with the movie. In your prop bag there is a peanut so you can eat one at the “Anybody want a peanut” line and a foam sword you can brandish at Inigo Montoya’s famous lines. Those are the two that are in the description for the event. Sounds like fun though!

Love this movie. There’s nothing to not like about it. I had read an article once about some rodent type animal somewhere. They had pictures to go with it and this animal is big. All I could think was ROUS’s actually exist.

I love this movie!!! I love all the fun lines to quote, like the ones mentioned or “inconceivable!” I also love that even now 27 years later we’re still quoting the movie and can still recognize these quotes anytime they’re used!

I love the scene with Miracle Max and Valerie. When my sons were young, I used to tell them as they left for school, “Bye bye boys. Have fun storming the castle.”

I loved it all, especially the contest of wits between Vizzini and Montoya! I liked that the movie crossed so many genres. Also,I wanted a red dress and boots like the ones Buttercup was wearing.
